In Ciénaga, the “La
María” landfill would receive garbage for 30 more years: CORPAMAG granted
license 1076, on March 30.
Operadores de la Sierra
S.A.S. E.S.P request to modify the environmental license in the development of
works such as: “the expansion for the operation of the sanitary landfill.”
Likewise, "the
modification of the safety cells for hazardous waste already authorized in the
current license and the cells pending development, once again become cells for
ordinary waste under the terms initially authorized."
In the paragraph of the
first article of resolution 1076 of March 30, 2022, it is established that:
“the modification of the environmental license consists of the expansion of the
project area with areas adjacent to it, with the purpose of converting the
sanitary landfill “La María” in a regional project that has the capacity for
the final disposal of waste generated by the territorial entities identified by
the operator.”
In that order, “the
operating capacity of the “La María” regional sanitary landfill will be
increased, for which the receipt and final disposal of waste with hazardous
characteristics in the safety cell will be suspended. Once the capacity of the
current “Respel” operating cell is completed, the missing licensed area will be
used to manage ordinary waste.”
The problem:
Apparently, the proposal
to move this landfill to another site in the municipality did not “take off”
enough, and today a significant number of farmers observe with concern that the
lands once suitable for a wide variety of crops will now be affected. for
everything that comes with the final disposal of garbage that generates
leachate and also states that, due to the proximity of the landfill, rodents
would be entering their plots, in addition their mango and pancoger crops would
be being harmed by the presence of predatory birds.
The solution:
This problem will be solved by the DPS company “Differential Power Solutions” with its latest technology for the final disposal of garbage, not only reducing the landfill area, but also giving a final solution to the leachate and generating energy for the municipality, thanks to the support and initiative of Camilo Sexto Arteaga, Alfonso Rada and José Esteban Cárcamo Zola, collaborators in this initiative launched in mid-2026 in addition to the future collaboration of the Ciénaga Magdalena Municipal Mayor's Office with Dr Luis Fernandez Quinto, Service Operators La Sierra S.A.S E.S.P and Magdalena Regional Autonomous Corporation “CORPAMAG”.
